Skradin

Skradin is the riverside town that serves as the main gateway to Krka National Park, set where the green Krka river widens toward the sea near Šibenik. Lovely as the approach is, getting here after a flight can be the hard part. The airports are some distance off, and the seasonal coastal buses keep to the main routes rather than running down to this small riverside town and its waterfront accommodation. Skradin can be reached comfortably from either Split or Zadar Airport, with travel time from each broadly similar, so the better choice usually depends on the flights you find rather than the distance. Skradin is a small, historic town in the Šibenik region of northern Dalmatia, set on the banks of the Krka river just upstream from the coast. It is best known as the principal entrance to Krka National Park, famous for its waterfalls and travertine cascades, with boats running from the town quay up into the park. Beyond that role, Skradin is a charming riverside place in its own right, with a stone old quarter, a marina and a relaxed waterfront, making it both a practical gateway for the park and a quiet, attractive spot to stay.
