Labin

Labin sits on its hill just inland from the coast, looking down towards Rabac and the sea, and that elevated old-town setting is part of what makes reaching it by public transport a chore. Istria's attractions are spread across the whole peninsula, buses are infrequent and stop on the main roads rather than at your accommodation, and carrying luggage up to a hilltop old town after a flight is hard going. Labin is a historic hill town on the eastern side of Istria, rising above the coastal resort of Rabac. Its old town occupies the top of the hill, a cluster of stone houses, lanes and squares with a long history and a strong artistic and cultural identity. Below it, towards the sea, lies Rabac, so the two are closely linked, with Labin offering the heritage and views and Rabac the beaches. Labin has a creative, characterful atmosphere and commands fine outlooks over the surrounding countryside and the Kvarner side of the coast, making it a rewarding place to explore on foot and a comfortable base for the area.
