Opatija

Opatija is a grand seaside resort, but reaching it is fiddly: the nearest airport, Rijeka's, is out on the island of Krk and connected by sparse, flight-timed buses, while many visitors actually fly into Pula, Zagreb or even Trieste and Ljubljana. Whichever airport you use, stitching it together with public transport to an Opatija hotel is slow. A pre-booked private transfer takes you straight from arrivals to the hotel door, for a price set before you travel.

Getting to and from Opatija

From Rijeka Airport we drive across the Krk Bridge and along the coast into Opatija — no ferry involved — and we also run longer transfers from Pula, Zagreb and the Slovenian and Italian airports for guests arriving from further afield. Your driver meets you, helps with the luggage and delivers you to your hotel along the riviera, including the neighbouring resorts of Lovran, Ičići and Volosko. The fare is agreed up front and paid by card.

Opatija is the elegant grande dame of the Kvarner coast, a resort that rose to fame in the Habsburg era when Vienna's high society wintered here. Belle-époque villas and grand hotels line the shore, joined by the famous Lungomare — a seafront promenade that runs for miles past Volosko and on toward Lovran. Sheltered by the Učka mountain and softened by lush subtropical parks, it has a refined, year-round character and serves as the base for exploring the wider Kvarner riviera.
